Just around the corner to the beachy, beachy, beach

Our goal for Sunday:

Swim in the Atlantic.

We had a not too far drive on Sunday from Savannah to Jacksonville which ended up taking us only 3.5 hours. Just long enough for us to have a heated debate about Persimmon paintball. Matt thinks that if we had a team of back of house vs. front of house that the back would win. I heartily disagree. We in the front are scrappy, determined and smaller so we can hide easier. I think it would be an epic takedown. He thinks we would go down without much of a fight . . . This conversation consumed at least a chunk of the drive. Blasting Pandora's southern rock station took up the rest, and then we were there.

In honor of hitting Florida we changed the stickers on the dash:

First, it was time for some trashy fun. We'd been joking about going to a Hooters since we left RI in part because, hey, it's Hooters. Also because my cousin Andrew apparently has driven cross country a number of times and always makes it a point to stop at everyone he can; so this was a bit of an homage to that. I googled "Hooters" and found that good ol' Jacksonville has 4 (!!!), so I picked one that looked to be close by and mapquested us there. Oh, My Goodness did we hit the jackpot.

I didn't want to be rude and take a lot of obvious pictures so you will just have to take my word for it when I tell you it was quite an experience. Being a Sunday in football season it was packed with lots of customers and girls all in their game day outfits. That was awesome regardless, but what made it even better is that the plaza it was located in was having a bike show. As in, Harley Davidsons up and down the block and loads of biker families out and about - some at the Hooters with us. Add in a super loud country rock band performing in the plaza as well and you have the Super Trashy time we were looking for. And it was on the water and sunny and 80 degrees out. Perfection.

Next, we drove about 15 minutes to our hotel (this time a La Quinta Inn which was pretty great) to check in and grab some towels. Then off to the Beach.

Talk about a really lovely day. It was late afternoon so it was just the right temperature outside with a breeze off the water.

And in we went. I'll be honest and tell you I only got wet up to my thighs, but in my defense I've got a head cold and didn't want to deal with water up my nose. Matt, however, was in the water in a flash. He does this thing that I find so adorable where he swims around, over and under waves and periodically pokes his head WAY up to look around, then goes back down. It's just like a seal! I tried to take a picture but this is the best I could get zoomed in.

I picked up a few shells to add to our rapidly expanding collection on the dashboard. And we drove back to the hotel. We were heading west away from the beach as the sun was setting and it was simply beautiful.

After that we've had a not very interesting time. We left the beach and grabbed a quick bite of sushi, then spend the evening in the room relaxing. Yesterday, Monday, we had a long 6 hour drive to Pensacola where we are now and spent last night in our room as well. I've been feeling a little sick, but we are both a little road tired. Also, we head to New Orleans today and wanted to save a little money by not going out and getting crazy anywhere in Florida. We did of course drive into our first new time zone when we passed Tallahassee which I've never done in the continental US so that was something.

Now we have to get up, see if there is anything to eat at the free continental breakfast downstairs, and head out. Mississippi and Louisiana, here we come!
